Early pirate radio operator in Richardson,Texas, circa September 1975. "AM1-point-6-Mega-cycles-W-I-L-Deeeee" This station was a combination phonograph micophone preamp, a Heathkit RF generator, a tube type Channel Master 20 db video distribution amp and a CB lowpass filter feeding a long wire. By mid 1976 broadcasts with the same setup 87.7 or nearby 88 AM modulated at the bottom of the FM Band, the discovery that radio was work kept broadcast times unreliable. By 1977 legal understanding of commission practices prevented further experiments. The drive to become a licensed operator was granted in November 1977 You can listen to us now at: www.tantalk1340.com

The broadcast business has shifted away from independent station ownership, marketing and the construction related to it. Today content producers and network distribution is the only place my talents are needed.

My email is simple... email@marknolte.com Phone calls for Mark Nolte,  +1(501) 859-0500.

Check out my sales training page. Something simple you can work from memory. Start where I started and remember that no is not rejecting you. No means you just have not connected with the business owner how you intend to bring them the customers they want in a way they have confidence it will work for them.

Mark, Myles and Merl Nolte, Three Engineers, Communications, Aerospace, and Locomotive.

My Radio background started with component level electronics repair and design. As a young kid, I was interested in wireless radio, made out of a maze of wiring. Later radio and circuit designs built from a Science Fair 100-in-One kit.

Visiting Barry Goldwaters Ham Station as a Cub Scout planted the seed, eventually finding a High School Electronics Program that included a High School Radio Station, KOHM 91.1 FM Lubbock, Texas, forever sealed my dream.

It is no surprise my Amateur Radio Ham Call sign is: K"zero"H-M-S

My good friend John and Aqing whom introduced me to my wife Yun Bi. I married on my birthday...its a guy thing to forget important days.

Imagine a time machine scrolling back 30+ years...

My first few small jobs in Radio were KWGO Lubbock, TX 1977, WIDD Elizabethton, TN 1978, WANO Pineville, KY 1979. Hitching a ride to Austin, TX, Spring break 1981...Kevin Stone and Jim Ray gave me a chance as an Assistant Engineer at KOKE AM-FM Austin, Texas. Gene Bender hired me at KIXL where I worked as an announcer.

The real secret to my success then and now is my lifetime love and experience in electronics, everybody loves an arc-r-sparker fix anything Angus MacGyver type. If it does not come off the top shelf, I can find it for you. I can filter truth and reality before the money runs out.

Gill Garcia of Hicks Communications (now Clear Channel) exaggerated my skills and recommended me for KIXK Dallas my first major market job. I loved that experience and still owe Gill credit for his confidence.

I and Lee Rohden with Texas Oil and Gas, Filed 3 FM 80-90 drop-ins, Lubbock, Canyon, Bastrop, TX and Ben Wollery in Columbus, KS (family hometown). Texas Apps all failed but the Kansas deal was granted. We operated KCCU until it sold for $67K. At the time it seemed like a deal. The financial responsibility of station ownership changed the direction of my life.

I was a Broadcaster beyond the Columbus experience. I spent a few years in the Two Way/Cellular Biz away from broadcast for perspective and planning. Jim Ray bought KOKE AM and KGNB/KNBT New Braunfels...I will still bet on Jim Ray today. Bobby Mack (Bob McDonald) burned into my mind one phrase "You cant own a station...it will cost you $250 thousand just to flip the switch...then how are you going to (staff it) run it!?" I was angry and could not have been so motivated to prove him wrong...and did so in Hobbs, NM...again...and again...and again...and again....and again...the rest would be bragging but you get the idea.

The secret to successful station ownership is not in selling stations it’s running them. Learn the Angus MacGyver way to First, make your note payment. Second, learn to train anyone to sell. Third, program and connect to your community. Forth, manage your stations brand or image.

Everyone starts from different places financially. Prepare for your destiny. Train yourself in every discipline i.e.; Accounting, Traffic/Billing systems, Music rotation systems, Production and Recording Software, Computer Hardware and networking (Gut one and rebuild it, configure it to share files with another). Everyone seems to be in all stop mode. Public Media Companies are throwing away very expensive assets for pennies on the dollar. $30 million of the fifth Estate goes for $3 million. My buddy Kevin Ellis 401-359-0004 will finance Radio and TV properties that make money. If you are a proven seller, producer and chief cook and bottle washer. Call Kevin about your deal.
